This CLE webinar will guide patent counsel on the Unified Patent Court's (UPC) first year. The panel will address the trends and lessons learned over this time. The panel will discuss the key takeaways and how they can inform patent practice. The panel will also discuss what may be coming at the UPC.

Description

The UPC opened for business in June 2023. This was the most significant change in European patent practice in 50 years. Since the start of operations on June 1, the court has received a total of 341 cases through the end of April 2024. It is important to look at what trends have been observed and what can be learned from the first year.

The court is attractive because it has a broad reach and can decide preliminary injunctions to first instance decision in a more timely manner. The UPC also allows for forum shopping. For example, more infringement actions are being filed in Germany, which is known as one of the best patent litigation venues.

Things continue to develop at the UPC and questions remain. It is important for patent holders and challengers alike to understand how things have evolved at the UPC over its first year and what lessons can be learned.

Listen as our authoritative panel of patent attorneys examines the first year at the UPC. The panel will address the trends and lessons learned over this time. The panel will discuss the key takeaways and how they can inform patent practice. The panel will also discuss what may be coming at the UPC.
