This CLE webinar will guide counsel on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The panel will examine what has changed and what remains in place. The panel will examine key provisions and will discuss steps that companies should take to ensure compliance with the USMCA.

On July 1, 2020, the USMCA went into effect, thereby replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This new free trade agreement impacts many parts of the U.S., Canadian, and Mexican economies. There is a lot to digest with the USMCA, including the rules surrounding e-commerce and digital trade, which NAFTA did not address.

The USMCA makes several changes that will impact whether a variety of products qualify as duty free. It also establishes procedural changes that impact the entry and duty preference claim process, as well as facilitate qualification. While some NAFTA provisions remain, there will be changes for all companies.

Listen as our authoritative panel discusses the new USMCA and compares it with NAFTA. The panel will examine what has changed and what remains in place. The panel will also address what the new agreement means for companies and their counsel as well as the changes for companies to ensure USMCA compliance.

  1. Overview of the USMCA
  2. USMCA and NAFTA: differences and similarities
  3. Key provisions
  4. Steps that companies and counsel should take
  5. Enforcement

The panel will review these and other priority issues:

  • What are the significant differences between NAFTA and the USMCA?
  • How does the USMCA address e-commerce and digital trade?
  • How will the USMCA impact the procedural and strategic approach to trade between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada?
