But there are many reasons to be wary of using it in patent drafting. Using AI to automate tasks is potentially game changing, freeing attorneys to focus on higher level work. However, these tools must be used with caution.

For example, while some startups and other companies are using code that is generated by ChatGPT or other natural learning processors, they may be unaware or ignoring that, if the overall code includes any code that is under a public license, their overall code must be publicly disclosed. Use of such code is rampant by software engineers. It is critical for companies to scan software for any code that uses public license code but this is cost prohibitive and most companies cannot afford to do this.
