Recording of a 90-minute CLE webinar with Q&A
Conducted on Thursday, April 14, 2011
Recorded event now available
This CLE webinar will provide guidance to counsel for determining spousal maintenance and for overcoming challenges related to type, duration, modification and enforcement.
In preparing a case for spousal support or maintenance in a divorce proceeding, evidence must be presented to determine how much and how long such support will be paid.
There is no set formula for determining spousal maintenance amount and length. Among the factors considered are the financial resources of the parties, the amount of time until the party seeking support will be in a position to independently support him or herself, and the length of the marriage.
Counsel must understand and address issues such as type, duration, modification and enforcement to best meet the needs of the client.
Listen as our authoritative panel of family law attorneys examines the determination of spousal maintenance, including a discussion of when and how long it should be paid. The panel will address issues such as defining income, modification of spousal support and enforcement—and offer best practices for tackling these issues.
- Determining income for spousal maintenance
- Type of maintenance
- Defining income
- Factors for determining maintenance award
- Modification of spousal maintenance
- Premarital agreements
- Post-nuptial agreements
The panel will review these and other key questions:
- What factors are considered when determining the type of spousal maintenance to award?
- What must be demonstrated to warrant modification of spousal maintenance?
- How can parties ensure enforceability of spousal maintenance?

I particularly appreciated the comprehensive coverage of the alimony topic. The program provided good and practical information I can apply to my own practice. I was pleasantly surprised that so much information was packed into a one hour webinar.
