Many jurisdictions have implemented paid sick leave laws requiring employers to provide the benefit to its employees. Administering sick leave policies involves a maze of rules and regulations that make compliance difficult.

Varying regulations establish accrual and eligibility guidelines as well as recording and monitoring requirements. The complexity is exacerbated by the lack of federal coordination for this type of leave.
