This CLE course will guide personal injury attorneys in navigating the complex liability and insurance coverage issues that arise from auto accidents involving rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft. The panel will discuss the plaintiff and defense perspectives on this area of the law. The panel will also address how the state-by-state battle over whether drivers are employees or independent contractors affects discovery practices in accident suits alleging vicarious liability.

Description

Rideshare drivers must simultaneously drive and use smartphone apps for directions and customer information while navigating frequently unfamiliar areas, increasing the likelihood of auto accidents. This webinar will provide information about potential avenues for recovery and updates on relevant case law. In addition to the now-traditional rideshare scenarios, delivery services and automated ride services are prevalent in the marketplace.

Passengers, pedestrians, and drivers injured in an auto accident caused by a rideshare driver may pursue compensation for their injuries, including the driver's insurance, the rideshare company's insurance, and potentially other applicable sources. An increasing number of incidents now involve assault.

Personal injury claims involving rideshare services present unique liability and insurance issues because they typically treat their drivers as independent contractors instead of employees.

Listen as our plaintiff and defense counsel panel examines the unique issues attorneys face in bringing or defending claims for injuries sustained in accidents caused by rideshare drivers. The panel will discuss how to prove or challenge liability and unravel insurance coverage complexities under current and emerging constructs.
