Course Materials

This CLE course will prepare healthcare counsel to improve compliance in areas targeted by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) in its FY 2013 Work Plan, including hospital billing for inpatient stays, coding compliance, durable medical equipment and more.

The OIG issues a Work Plan each fiscal year outlining its areas of focus for the year. The Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2013, issued in early October, mostly addresses the continued implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, but it also introduces a number of new initiatives.

The major OIG initiatives include ensuring that hospitals comply with Medicare requirements for inpatient billing; reviewing hospital coding to determine if claims were appropriately processed and paid; and continuing to identify fraud and abuse risks in electronic health records systems, among others.

Listen as our authoritative panel of healthcare attorneys examines the OIG's priority activities for FY 2013. The panel will explain best practices for hospitals, providers, medical equipment suppliers, and their counsel to increase the likelihood that current compliance practices will survive heightened federal scrutiny.

  1. 2013 OIG Work Plan priorities
  2. Compliance best practices for hospitals, providers and suppliers

The panel will review these and other key questions:

  • What key compliance areas has the OIG targeted as enforcement priorities during fiscal year 2013?
  • What steps should hospitals, providers, suppliers and their counsel take immediately to ensure that their compliance practices will withstand OIG scrutiny?
  • What corrective measures should providers take if they are found to be out of compliance in the areas targeted by the OIG?

Following the speaker presentations, you'll have an opportunity to get answers to your specific questions during the interactive Q&A.
