This CLE webinar will provide local government counsel with an overview of major recent changes in federal laws, regulations and case law that affect local land use decisions and real estate development. The panel will discuss wetlands, floodplain regulations, climate change, the ADA, RLUIPA and more.

Description

The federal role in land use planning and regulation has steadily increased over the years through a variety of policies and programs. This increased encroachment upon local government decision-making creates additional challenges for local governments and property owners.

Federal law influences several major issues related to environmental protection and real estate development at the local level. Consequently, federal courts become involved and, over the years, several major decisions have been handed down that affect local land use practice.

Local and federal land use laws converge in the realm of environmental laws (NEPA, climate change, hazardous materials, wetlands and floodplain regulations), transportation (the new MAP-21 law), religious land use, HUD, military bases, energy and more.

Listen as our panel of experienced land use attorneys reviews the major and recent changes in federal laws, regulations and case law that affect local land use decisions. The panel will provide their perspectives on wetlands, floodplain regulations, climate change, the ADA, RLUIPA and more.
