Course Materials

This CLE course will prepare estate planning attorneys to identify estate planning opportunities associated with generation-skipping trusts. The panel will outline the asset protection and tax savings benefits, how to structure and fund the trust, and identify provisions to consider.

Generation-skipping trusts (dynasty trusts) provide important estate planning benefits. The assets that fund the trust can be protected from estate taxes and creditors. The generation-skipping transfer tax exemption can also be maximized.

Funding the trust with specific types of assets allows for the potential of tax-free growth. Life insurance should also be considered to fund the dynasty trust to provide beneficiaries with a death benefit that may not be subject to estate and other transfer taxes.

Listen as our authoritative panel of estate planning attorneys discusses best practices for maximizing the benefits of dynasty trusts, identifying the advantages of these trusts, drafting techniques and funding options.

  1. Advantages of dynasty trusts
  2. Structuring dynasty trusts
  3. Funding options
  4. Recent strategies
    1. Sub-S corporations
    2. Crummey powers

The panel will review these and other key questions:

  • What assets should be considered to fund a dynasty trust?
  • What tax benefits do generation-skipping trusts offer?
  • What best practices should counsel consider in drafting dynasty trust provisions?

Following the speaker presentations, you'll have an opportunity to get answers to your specific questions during the interactive Q&A.
