and Premises Liability Report
Hastily prepared requests for proposals (RFPs) from vendors of guard services, camera or access control systems, or other security services or products can spell disaster for a company security department.
If your security staff doesn't take the time to research your company's needs, the capabilities of the leading vendors, and the new technologies on the market, you're essentially asking vendors to create an RFP that may serve their interests better than your own.
Security departments must also plan in advance how they will evaluate and score RFPs, how to implement the winning bidder's product or service, and how to evaluate results. Without that careful advance thought, your company could easily waste thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Listen as our panel of veteran security pros prepares you to lead your team through a thorough, well-conceived planning process for creating a high-impact RFP.
The panel included:
Michael Rinicella, Security Manager, Jo-Ann Stores Inc., Hudson, Ohio. He has led security for company headquarters and a 1.5 million-square-foot distribution center since 2002. He previously worked as a police lieutenant in Ohio.
Gary Wilson, Corporate Security Manager, City of Vancouver, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He started an 18-year career in security and law enforcement as a police officer in Northern Ireland, and later worked in security executive positions for Cadillac Fairview Corp. and Intercon Security after emigrating to Canada.
Severin Sorensen, President and CEO, Sikyur LLC, Gaithersburg, Md. He has run a private security consulting practice since 1987. He also previously chaired the ASIS International Physical Security Council.
The panel provides guidance to help you:
- Pre-planning the RFP: Research the marketplace and identify the top vendors and your security department's key needs.
- Implementing the RFP: Devise an effective scoring system and draft provisions to protect your company's interests.
- Following up on results: Develop a follow-up plan to police vendors and make sure they meet every expectation and agreement.
