The use of procurement cards (which are essentially credit cards used for small-dollar purchases of supplies and materials) has reached a groundswell in corporate America and among government agencies and non-profits. However, their popularity creates additional oversight anxiety for corporate tax professionals.
Will employees using procurement cards mistakenly pay sales tax on exempt purchases? Do they know to include a valid, completing exemption certificate with their purchases? If your organization is making the sale, are your personnel trained to ask for an exemption certificate, and are they aware of which goods are taxable and exempt when bought with procurement cards?
As tax professionals, it falls on you to ensure your company’s processes are sound and its employees are thoroughly trained when it comes to both using and accepting procurement cards – because, any sales tax compliance hassles that result fall in your laps.
Listen as our panel of experts in the realm of procurement cards and sales tax – such as noted procurement card researcher and consultant Richard Palmer – helps you get a handle on this tricky area. You’ll gain new insights on:
- States’ tax policy: Which states do and don’t charge sales tax on purchases made with procurement cards, and which tax certain items such as meals and hotel rooms.
- Training: How corporate tax professionals can take an assertive role in preparing their companies’ procurement and sales staffs to use procurement cards with no sales tax mistakes.
- Compliance efficiency: What adjustments you need to make to your own sales tax-compliance processes, both as a purchaser and seller.
Our panelists include:
